I call my process...Active Color. Plein Air is wonderful for building up a book of sketches and subject matter. But once you enter the studio...the real fun begins. Active Color...is a way of letting the color...dance with the water and the paper. This way...no two paintings will ever be the same. A great sports analogy is...learning how to let the game...come to you.

Water color painting is like...tearing off that 3-piece suit and dancing in the rain... or...keep the 3-piece suit on...and dance in the rain anyway.

All the while...knowing...that Gene Kelly made it look easy...because ...firstly...he knew how to dance. That's where I can help you.

My methods are eclectic...one size does not fit all. Everyone absorbs information at their own pace.

Active color...is not just color-water-paper. It's also how you approach the act of creating a fine water color painting...long before you set brush to paper.

With water color...your colors can wither before your eyes...unless you think ahead...about...what colors to paint first, second or third.

And I could talk for days about the word paint as it applies to water color. Real water color painting...is not painting at all.

I specialize in the most difficult arena of water color painting...transparent water color. Because it is glorious in the results. You do want people to stop...and marvel at your work...right?

So...if you want to move to the next level, if you are tired of results that while ok...are just ok, if you really want to step into your future as a water color artist...contact me.

When it comes to light...have you ever noticed that a white sheet drying in the afternoon sun can appear blue, yellow, red, orange, grey and more due to the reflection of the sun, clouds and your sun glasses? I want my viewers to become swept away with the possibilities all around you that nature provides.

Painting En Studio Secludo (in the studio) is a wonderful experience for the beginner because it gives you "time" to reflect on your composition and your color scheme. I often teach En Studio Secludo one to one as many beginners feel skittish about presenting their work to the critical eyes of strangers.

Giving personal demonstrations of my process...puts me in touch with the reactions and perspectives of others...as we all have a unique way of approaching a painting. As such...my workshops, while structured...leave lots of room for exploring the paths less traveled.  Contact me for workshops or individual suggestions...and walk through the doors towards painting progress.
