Online Portrait Workshop using... A Special paper -

The painting on the far left was done on cold press paper.
The painting on the middle left was done on 400 lb. Bristol Board.
The painting on the immediate left was done on a special paper.
According to...one of the premier art supply houses..."This special paper is a compelling and unique alternative to traditional art papers. It's a synthetic paper, machine-made in the USA of 100% polypropylene. It is waterproof, stain resistant, and extremely strong and durable.
This extraordinary, non-absorbent surface resists tearing and buckling and remains perfectly flat, eliminating the need for soaking, stretching, or taping.
Watercolor professionals have found Yupo to be receptive to a variety of aqueous techniques, but it is also ideal for offset printing, silkscreen, debossing, drawing, acrylic painting, and more.
Because of the unique qualities of this paper, dirt and oils hinder its performance. We recommend removing spots and fingerprints with soap and water before use.
PH neutral, flawlessly smooth and Recyclable. Available in bright white or translucent. Pigments applied to the ultra bright white sheet retain their true clarity and brilliance."
Watercolor painting with 'special' paper is DIFFERENT! -
#1 - You don't really 'paint' on this paper...not the way you paint on hot, cold press paper...or Bristol Board.
#2 - Stain colors will stain this paper. However...you can 'lift' most colors...all the way to the white of the paper.
#3 - Colors you do 'paint' on this paper...will dry 80-90% as bright...as when 'painted.'
#4 - The drying time between washes and underpainting is greatly increased. This may drive some of you...'up the wall.'
#5 - Increase your productivity...you can work on multiple paintings...while you wait for some to dry.
#6 - You can leave your quache and opaque colors 'at home'...your translucent colors will sparkle on Yupo.
#7 - For those of you who paint on Bristol Board...be prepared to be shocked with this paper.
#8 - Imagine...no more 'washed out' looking paintings.
#9 - Why haven't you heard of this paper before? Because it is a secret of best selling painters.
#10 - For laughes...rummage through your own portfolio...pick out a painting you like...but it just does not have that 'pop.'
Take another look at the painting up top...on the immediate left...and ask yourself...which painting 'knocks your socks off?'
Now - imagine what your own washed-out painting might look like if done on this paper.
Would you like to see this paper in action! -
Of course you would. Relax...I have put together a video...to show you...exactly what you can do with this special paper.
This demonstration is a portrait...one of the most difficult tasks you can undertake...in any medium. But especially difficult with watercolor.
Undercoats...establishing values...leaving white space for midtones and highlights...you know the drill.
How many times...have you discovered...too late...that the highlight areas...well you painted over them, or your frisquet didn't cover every area you wanted...and your 'lifting' didn't quite do the trick?
How many times...have you found...to your dismay...that your blends...turned to 'mud?' ruining a perfectly good picture.
How many times...have you felt like ripping a painting and throwing it away...because partly through it...you realize...'this is not working.'
Well...what if...just for 'twinkies and milk'...you could 'erase'...wipe out...banish those poor areas of your painting...and salvage the rest?
Here's one for most you...what if...you could go back into a painting that you thought was complete...and completely...re-work an area?
What if...you could 'start over' in a painting that was already...partially done?
Well...before I spill all the beans...and bring the wrath of the best selling painters...down on my head...a word of warning...don't say I didn't warn you...this specail paper is nothing like you have ever experienced before.
You must be kidding...no paper is this good! -
That is exactly what I said...until I tried this special paper.
I'm not reading your mind...it's just what most watercolor artists say...until they try it.
This is not an ad for paper. I am not selling paper. I don't make a dime...when you buy it.
I am however, introducing to you...what you can do...if - you are brave enough, reckless enough...to wrestle with it.
Because this paper is relatively expensive...it takes no prisoners...and because artists tend to stay with what they know...you are invited to witness me actually painting a portrait...on it.
Now here is the catch...there is always a catch...the video is no charge. Not because I feel like giving it away...it is not professionally produced...and I don't want to have to refund your money.
And I already know...from trial and error...the first few times you wrestle with this special paper...it will punish you...two out of three falls.
Because...if you have adopted the technique...of loading your brush with color and water...watch out!
Because...if you are used to handling your painting or munching while you work...your finger prints will be all over your painting!
Because...working with this special paper...is like nothing...I repeat...like nothing you have painted on before.
